How it works

Three steps. Under a minute.

1

Upload Your Task Notification

Upload the assignment sheet your teacher gave you, the one with the rubric and marking criteria. This tells MarkMate what you're being marked on.

2

Submit Your Draft

Paste your text, upload a Word or PDF file, or photograph your handwritten work. All three methods work.

3

Get Feedback & Improve

See your marks against each rubric criterion, with specific strengths (green) and areas to fix (orange) highlighted throughout your work. Revise and check again.

“I checked my Biology report before handing it in and went from a Band 3 to a Band 5. The vocabulary suggestions made the biggest difference.”

— Year 11 Student, NSW

What you get back

Marks against every rubric criterion

Not just a single grade. Each criterion in your rubric is scored individually with specific feedback on what you did well and what to improve.

Highlighted strengths and improvements

Your work is annotated with green (strengths) and orange (areas to fix). Click any highlight to see a detailed explanation and a suggestion for how to make it better.

Writing structure coaching

MarkMate suggests frameworks like PEEL or TEEL to help you structure your paragraphs. It flags underdeveloped paragraphs, weak introductions, and conclusions that don't tie back to the question.

Vocabulary suggestions

Vague words like 'good' or 'bad' are flagged with stronger alternatives. Subject-specific key terms are suggested, the kind of language that gets you into the higher bands.

Directive verb checking

If your task says 'evaluate' but you only describe, MarkMate flags it. It checks that you're actually doing what the question asks at the right level of thinking.

Australian English spelling and grammar

Flags American spellings (organize → organise) and common grammar errors. Because your teacher marks in Australian English.

Common questions

Is this cheating?

No. You write everything yourself — MarkMate just tells you where you can improve before you submit, the same way a teacher would in a feedback session.

Does my teacher need to set it up?

Not necessarily. If your teacher uses MarkMate, they'll share a link with you. But you can also use it independently. Just upload your own task notification and work.

Does it work for handwritten work?

Yes. Take a clear photo of each page and upload them. MarkMate reads your handwriting and lets you check the extracted text before marking.

What subjects does it cover?

30+ NSW subjects across 7 faculties: English, Mathematics, Science, HSIE (History, Geography, Business Studies, Legal Studies, etc.), PDHPE, Creative Arts, and TAS. Years 7 through 12.

How much does it cost?

Free to try with the homepage demo. Students get 5 free self-checks per month. Student Plus is $7.99/month (or $5.49/month billed annually) for 30 checks. All prices in AUD, incl. GST.
